The Gods of Egypt
There were many gods in Egypt that were important to the Religion. Of there many gods there was one god that they say ruled them all. and he was the god of all gods. Over 1500 gods worshipped him. He was named the king of Egypt, people also referred to him as “the high priest of every temple.” The word 'pharaoh’ is the Greek form of the Egyptian 'pero’ or 'per-a-a’, which was the designation for the royal residence. This quote shows that Pharaoh was considered a god on earth and was highly respected and worshipped by all the people. It also shows that most of the rulers/gods were usually the sons or the declared heirs of Egypt. The third dynasty was when the Pharaoh was born and it was the first dynasty of the Old Kingdom. The Pharaoh ruled this dynasty for about 75 years. People have different opinions of how the Pharaoh died. Some say that Pharaoh of Exodus drowned in the Red Sea (psalm 136:15). Amun was the god of air. He was one of the eight ancient Egyptian gods who formed the Ogdoad of Hermopolis. The Ogdoad was a system of eight deities, made up of four gods and there woman. Each pair represented their important powers and duties in both a male and female way. Amun and Amet represented air. The gods and goddesses of Ogdoad ruled the earth during the Golden Age. This shows that Amun must have been very important if he became on of the gods of Ogdoad. To become an Ogdoad you have to be well known, and well worshipped. For example Amun had his own temple – The temple of Amun. It is located along the Nile River. It was Amun’s birth place and residents of Egypt are able to visit, and pray for it. Isis was the first born daughter of Geb. She is the god of the earth Isis spent time among her people, teaching women how to grind corn and make bread, spin flax and weave cloth. Unlike most higher gods she possessed the same characteristics as the minor gods. Isis was called "The One Who Was All" and "The Lady of Ten Thousand Names". She gave birth to Horus the God of Sun. Together Isis and Horus created and sustained all life of the Egyptians and were their saviours. Isis became the greatest God of all the land. This quote shows that Isis was highly worshipped and widely known to all the people. Originally the most important god was Ra but Isis brought him down because he caused suffering to most of the land. To do this Isis set upon Ra a poisonous snake the bit him, she offered him a cure but in return he had to answer to her. All though "The King of The Gods The Pharaoh" was the most highly ranked god Amun, Ra and Isis were just some of the examples of the major Gods the Egyptians worshipped.
