Ways of Worshipping Comparison
Four major religions and their worshipping:
Hinduism had many gods that they worshipped to represent different things. A hindu's aim was to become free from the law of karma (bad luck). This is a process that they would go through in order to worship the gods and free themselves of karma: 1. Be lovingly devoted to any of the Hindu gods or goddesses. 2. Grow in knowledge through meditation of Brahman (oneness)...to realise that circumstances in life are not real, that selfhood is an illusion and only Brahman is real. 3. Be dedicated to various religious ceremonies and rites. For example a Puja ceremony is when you make a divine connection with the god, through an object or drawing of the god. Another example is the Arti ceremony which is probably the most important ceremony in Hinduism ceremony was when the worshipper will offer incense and a candle towards the god and this ceremony will take from 5-30 minutes. Another example of a religion is is Buddhism. Because they do not worship any god they focus on meditation and inner-peace. A way of worshipping for them is reaching Nirvana. This is done by a meditation and the worshipper will blow out the flame of desire. To practice the muslim religion you must do the following things: 1. Repeat a creed about Allah and Muhammad; 2. Recite certain prayers in Arabic five times a day; 3. Give to the needy; 4. One month each year, fast from food, drink, sex and smoking from sunrise to sunset; 5. Pilgrimage once in one's lifetime to worship at a shrine in Mecca. Ways of worshipping in the Christian faith was simple. Believers would say prayers before the do activities such as eat or sleep. They would ask God to watch over them during the activity that the were about to do. They would thank god for the food they gave them. They lived by the bible which gave meaningful encouragement and rules to live by. Some others attended Church every Sunday which they believed is where the gods would be present and could answer their prayers.
Egyptian Ways of Worshipping
Egyptians had many ways of worshipping and eventually they evolved to prayers. But before that Egyptians used incense in order to send messages and spiritually connect with the god. They also used temples in which the god or goddesses was born. Priests were a way to connect and ask the god for help or advice. Each temple had a sanctuary in which the civilian that wanted to worship the god could only go as far as the entrance hall, in the temple and then the priest would lead the ceremony in that ceremony they would offer the god gifts of food and jewels.
As you can see though the religions are very different in themselves. Their ways of worshipping still produce links to each other. For example they all use incense, prayers and animal sacrifice. This could be a result of research on Egyptian culture that could be reflected on religion today.
